The second edition of ‘The Cutting Edge: Basic Veterinary Surgery Techniques’ will be a revised and improved version of 'The Cutting Edge' (2006) and has been prepared by various veterinary lecturers at the Utrecht University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Ghent and the Royal Veterinary College, London. Its goal is to teach veterinary students the basic art of veterinary surgery without having a specific animal species in mind.
This edition is designed to operate as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Veterinary students all over the world will be able to use the text, images and veterinary videos for their benefit whilst improving their surgical knowledge and skills.
‘The Cutting Edge 2.0’ provides veterinary students and new graduates with the tools needed to grasp the principles of veterinary surgery, along with a discussion of the limitations and complications of surgical procedures. It should not be regarded as a complete reading text for all veterinary surgical problems and techniques, but as providing general information for the inexperienced surgeon. Other veterinary textbooks will be able to provide details of more advanced techniques.
Previously published work by Dr W. Back, Dr M.D. Zaal and Dr C.D. van Zuilen is acknowledged; we value their expertise. Thanks are due to Mr Joop Fama for supplying most of the photographic materials used in this book.
